Limbo is a puzzle-platforming indie video game by Playdead. It was released for Xbox Live Arcade in July 2010, and then broadened to other consoles later that year. In it, a boy enters a hostile world of dark forests, crumbling ruins, and malevolent creatures. In the game players control a nameless boy as he searches across forest environments for his sister. The gameplay involves solving puzzles which require the player to manipulate objects in the environment or use their provided abilities - such as jumping on certain surfaces or running along walls - to progress further into each level. The game uses a minimalist visual style, with players only having access to two colours of light that contrast with each other, and no visible HUD or interaction menus. This minimalism is reflected in the game's minimalist sound design; only one music track is played throughout gameplay, along with no spoken dialogue. The game was created by Danish video game developer Playdead following the release of "Lonely Journey" in 2005, which was developed in collaboration with several other independent development studios in Denmark under the name CBE Software. The development studio was established in 2007 in Copenhagen by Jakob Schuster and Dino Dini, who had previously developed several games together at their former company Adriaansen & Co. Ltd., also based in Copenhagen. "Limbo" was Playdead's debut title. The game was initially released in July 2010 for Xbox Live Arcade, where it sold over 500,000 copies in two years. Versions for Microsoft Windows and OS X were released in October 2010. It received critical acclaim for its art direction, puzzles, and atmosphere. A PlayStation 3 version of the game was released in 2011, along with an iOS port under the name "Limbo of the Lost". The game was also ported to Linux by Ryan Gordon and to both Android and Ouya in 2013. A sequel titled "" was announced at E3 2014 for PlayStation 4, with a release date of sometime later that year. The game was released in July 2016. A second sequel, "", was released in November 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and a year later for PC. The player controls a boy who must traverse a hostile environment to find his sister. The player guides the boy from a third-person perspective as he walks or runs across platforms and ledges, climbs walls, avoids dangers such as spikes and bottomless pits as well as other creatures, and solves puzzles to proceed to the next area. In areas which require swimming, the player controls the boy from an overhead perspective. As the boy explores each area they are shown in brief animated cutscenes which are triggered by approaching certain objects or creatures. The player can die, respawning somewhere safe after a brief period of time has passed. The game includes the ability to save at any time, also with auto-save options included. "Limbo" was designed with the intention of creating a game that emphasises exploration and pure playability, rather than artistic direction. Jakob Schuster stated that "it's not about story or dialogues" and that they wanted to create a world where "people can create their own stories. cfa1e77820
